Back in 2000 my wife and I bought our first home,
a duplex near the beach in a small city north of San Diego called,
Leucadia. It wasn't in bad shape, but every house needs some kind
of work. Thus began my career. It wasn't long before the outdoor
stairs needing replacing, then a door, then plumbing, appliance
repairs and so on.
Wanting to save money, I jumped in and learned how to build and do repairs.
Several of my neighbors were in the trades and what I didn't know,
I learned quickly. Then in 2003 we moved back to the Bay Area and
bought our ugly duckling fixer, a geodesic dome with a great view
and an even greater dry rot problem. The deck, siding, doorways,
windows and floors all needed to be replaced.
I wondered if I had bitten off more than I could chew.
I needed someone honest, skilled, and trustworthy who could help
me not only get the work done, but give me advice about what was
needed and what wasn't, someone who was willing to show me the right
materials and what I could do myself. Hiring one of the best in the
business and working side by side full-time on the remodel, I learned
how to get the jobs done right.
I enjoyed the work so much I went ahead and turned
the pile of dirt in the basement into a rental studio before moving
on to other people's projects.
Oh, and long before any of this construction business, I earned a Bachelors
of Science degree from San Diego State University in 1992. I even
completed pre-med before realizing that I'd rather
work on a hospital than in one! |
