Termites are very tiny insects that can cause very large amounts of damage. Like dry rot, termites damage wood framing and will, if left alone long enough, wreak havoc on a home's structural integrity.

Tell tale signs of termite rot are crumbling, powdery dust around wood framing, gouged holes inside the wood, channels or grooved patterns on the surface, and tubular structures made out of debris.

Live infestations require specialized exterminator services. Once the house has been treated, the affected framing needs to be inspected. If caught early enough the wood will be okay. Framing that has been eaten through must be replaced.
